The Power of Energy, Innovation, the Collective Voice of Business Travel
Last week, I got to feel first-hand the energy of Silicon Valley’s innovation heartbeat at Plug and Play’s Silicon Valley Summit, where a few thousand companies, from startups to Fortune 500 level, intersected to bring innovation and new ideas to life for their customers, products and communities across many sectors. And while leisure travel often takes center stage, this event’s travel sector participants got to dive into the state of business travel recovery through my keynote full of GBTA insights and data. (Thanks to YOU for answering our regular polling and research questions!)
Of course, business and leisure travel are tightly linked. Still, I was happy to see, amongst those featured, travel startups like BTP Automation and Arise focusing on business travel-specific problems. Our industry has a history of benefitting from startup energy as old problems get solved or evolve – and many that start by focusing on leisure find even more value when they pivot to business travel’s complexities. More ideas are welcome!
This week, we are set for more energy and innovation at two important, in-person meet-ups in Washington, D.C.: GBTA’s own 2nd global Sustainability Summit, taking place today and our annual US Legislative Summit that follows. Our underlying pillars of community, learning and advocacy come to life through these two events, where policy, innovation, governance and action take center stage. At our Sustainability Summit I will be unveiling onstage our latest landmark “state of the industry” study on climate action and business travel. On Thursday, the week culminates with Legislative Summit participants walking Capitol Hill to meet with US legislators in Congress about the issues that matter most to our industry and community. True examples of putting GBTA’s collective “voices” to work.
Finally – although it might seem a long time ago, a reminder that we’ve just passed the first anniversary of GBTA’s helping to remove the negative testing requirement for international in-bound travelers to the US. A lot has happened in the past year, even if we humans seem to quickly move on to new challenges and opportunities. But I think it’s worth a moment’s pause to celebrate all that GBTA works for and accomplishes to help this industry to sustainably grow and prosper. Thanks for your help in making all our efforts so effective.
See you soon on the road,
Suzanne
