GBTA Advocacy Continues on the Agenda in Europe
EU Commission proposes changes to passenger rights regulation
Passenger rights are at the heart of EU transport and consumer policy. Yesterday, the EU Commission presented a series of proposals on passenger rights and package travel. You can read the full press release here.
The most relevant one to business travel is the review of the Passenger Rights Framework to ensure passenger rights are correctly enforced, to protect passengers against travel disruption, and to improve protect passengers in multimodal journeys.
This includes clarifying the role of intermediaries and carriers in refunds and in providing information to passengers, making it easier for passengers to claim their rights, and requiring carriers to publish reports on their implementation of passenger rights, as well as granting new rights to multimodal travelers.
A Q&A on the revision of the passenger rights regulation can be viewed here.
GBTA will be assessing the impact of these changes on business travelers and will provide further in-depth analysis shortly. We would welcome your thoughts − please contact Shane Downey, GBTA Vice President, Government Relations, Sdowney@gbta.org with any comments.
GBTA connects in Brussels on sustainability and business travel.
This month GBTA representatives gathered in Brussels to advocate for sustainable, efficient, and seamless business travel. The group attended more than a dozen meetings with various stakeholders from across the travel eco-system including policymakers, trade associations, and industry experts.
The goal of these engagements was to address key challenges and opportunities faced by the industry, in particular promoting multimodality, the promotion and adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), the harmonisation of emission tracking and reporting, and the improvement of passenger rights. GBTA actively engaged on these matters during their latest EU outreach round to ensure that policymakers and other EU stakeholders understand the unique needs and concerns of the business travel sector.
