GBTA Statement on U.S. Capitol Violence

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) has a decades-long tradition of working with both Republicans and Democrats in Washington, D.C. and around the country. At the heart of these efforts stands a profound respect for democracy, for freedom and for practical problem-solving before partisanship.

The actions and rhetoric that led to rioters storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6th are dangerous and unacceptable, as is the possibility that such disruptive, anti-American activity may again be cultivated in the coming days. Let us be clear: Our industry and all industries depend on the government to be an agent of positive productivity and a force for good – especially at such a challenging time in our nation’s history.

Our elected leaders must put aside their own political interests and put the interests of the Nation at the forefront. GBTA fully supports President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris and the incoming Administration. We welcome their vision and leadership and the leadership of all elected officials committed to ensuring that such disturbing images never again occur in Washington, the capital of the world’s leading democracy.

We look forward to better days ahead. We urge one and all to rise above the chaos of the past few days so that America may move forward as one nation, united in the pursuit of liberty and success for all.
