{"id":33265,"date":"2026-06-16T11:38:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T15:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gbta.org\/?p=33265"},"modified":"2026-06-22T13:41:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T17:41:16","slug":"air-passenger-rights-gbta-welcomes-landmark-agreement-and-calls-for-clear-and-consistent-implementation-across-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gbta.org\/fr\/air-passenger-rights-gbta-welcomes-landmark-agreement-and-calls-for-clear-and-consistent-implementation-across-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Passenger Rights: GBTA Welcomes Landmark Agreement and Calls for Clear and Consistent Implementation Across Europe\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Landmark political agreement&nbsp;at EU level preserves compensation rights whilst&nbsp;strengthening passenger information and claims during travel disruption<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Brussels, Belgium (16 June 2026)<\/strong> \u2013 The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) welcomes the\u00a0agreement\u00a0reached\u00a0this week\u00a0on the long-awaited reform of EU air passenger rights rules, marking an\u00a0important step toward greater clarity for travellers,\u00a0businesses,\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0wider\u00a0travel ecosystem.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>Over the past years,\u00a0GBTA\u00a0has\u00a0supported a clearer and more standardised EU passenger rights framework.\u00a0In business travel, disruptions\u00a0can affect meetings, events, and client commitments, making timely information, rerouting,\u00a0reimbursement\u00a0and compensation essential to traveller confidence.\u00a0The new rules go a long way\u00a0towards\u00a0addressing business travellers\u2019\u00a0concerns,\u00a0introducing\u00a0transparent\u00a0obligations around passenger information\u00a0and\u00a0compensation.\u00a0<br><br>GBTA particularly welcomes\u00a0that, in cases of\u00a0cancellation or delays, airlines will need to inform passengers\u00a0about their rights to\u00a0compensation. This will\u00a0ensure\u00a0that business travellers\u00a0are\u00a0aware\u00a0of their rights in case of disruptions.\u00a0In addition, under the agreement\u00a0reached between EU decision-makers this week,\u00a0travellers will continue to be entitled to compensation ranging from \u20ac250 to \u20ac600, depending on flight distance, from three hours of delay onwards.\u00a0This\u00a0outcome provides certainty for millions of business travellers\u00a0and their\u00a0organisations.\u00a0<br><br>GBTA urges EU Member States to implement\u00a0the revised rules\u00a0in a clear and consistent\u00a0manner,\u00a0strengthening\u00a0business travellers\u2019\u00a0confidence\u00a0that their rights will be respected in the event of disruptions.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>While this agreement marks\u00a0an important step\u00a0forward, it is only one part of a\u00a0wider move\u00a0to modernise passenger rights across Europe. GBTA encourages EU policymakers\u00a0to maintain momentum around negotiations on\u00a0the\u00a0remaining passenger rights proposals, on\u00a0enforcement and\u00a0multimodal\u00a0travel, while ensuring coherence with the objectives of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gbta.org\/fr\/gbta-welcomes-eu-measures-to-make-travel-easier-to-book-compare-and-manage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Passenger Package<\/a>\u00a0presented last month. Together, these initiatives can help create a more transparent, integrated and traveller-focused transport system, providing greater legal certainty for passengers and clearer responsibilities across the travel ecosystem.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fulvio Origo,&nbsp;GBTA&nbsp;Senior Director&nbsp;for&nbsp;Europe,&nbsp;Middle&nbsp;East and&nbsp;Africa (EMEA)&nbsp;said:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen&nbsp;faced&nbsp;with travel disruption, business travellers need clear information, fast,&nbsp;effective&nbsp;support,&nbsp;and&nbsp;simple, straightforward&nbsp;processes&nbsp;to&nbsp;fully&nbsp;understand&nbsp;and exercise their&nbsp;passenger&nbsp;rights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GBTA welcomes&nbsp;the&nbsp;progress&nbsp;achieved&nbsp;on&nbsp;these&nbsp;long&nbsp;awaited&nbsp;reforms.&nbsp;The&nbsp;new&nbsp;rules on&nbsp;air passenger&nbsp;rights&nbsp;will&nbsp;help reduce uncertainty for travellers and companies, provided the final rules are implemented in a clear, consistent and practical way across Europe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have consistently called for stronger information obligations, standardised reimbursement processes,&nbsp;and clearer responsibilities between airlines,&nbsp;intermediaries&nbsp;and passengers.&nbsp;The announced deal is a&nbsp;first&nbsp;step in the right direction.&nbsp;However, we encourage EU policymakers&nbsp;to keep up the momentum and&nbsp;make sure that&nbsp;the broader passenger rights and ticketing frameworks&nbsp;being negotiated&nbsp;keep&nbsp;consistency&nbsp;with&nbsp;this regulation,&nbsp;reinforcing&nbsp;business travellers\u2019&nbsp;trust that they will be informed and protected in case
