GBTA Urges End to Global Entry Suspension, Citing Security and Business Travel Risks
GBTA is advocating for the U.S. Congress and Administration to restore the Global Entry program, warning that its suspension increases security and operational risks while disrupting business travel critical to the U.S. economy. On February 22, the Department of Homeland Security made the decision to suspend Global Entry due to the partial U.S. government shutdown that began February 14.
In a letter to U.S. congressional leaders, GBTA cautioned that halting the program will slow airport processing, strain security resources, reduce productivity and weaken U.S. global competitiveness.
“Trusted traveler programs like Global Entry are essential to both security and the efficient movement of travelers,” said Suzanne Neufang, CEO of GBTA. “Longer lines, diverted security focus, and lost productivity would be the real cost of suspending these programs.”
GBTA emphasized that Global Entry is a proven, congressionally authorized program that allows U.S. Customs and Border Protection to focus resources on higher‑risk travelers while efficiently processing low‑risk passengers.
GBTA is also calling on Congress to swiftly reach a bipartisan agreement to end the partial government shutdown and prevent further disruption across the travel ecosystem.
