Breaking Down Barriers in Accessible Travel

The World Health Organization estimates one in six of the world’s population experiences significant disability. Yet, so daunting is the prospect of taking a business trip, “in many cases employees with disabilities just avoid travel and all the associated benefits and opportunities it gives,” a travel manager for a global tech company told the UK & Ireland’s Institute of Travel Management (ITM) annual conference in Brighton last month.

The shocking experiences underpinning this observation are not hard to find. Only last week the BBC reported on Irish wheelchair user Adrian Keogh crawling down the steps of a Ryanair aircraft at Göteborg Landvetter Airport in Sweden after being told no one could could assist his disembarkation for an hour. Keogh couldn’t wait that long. He was in pain after the flight and needed the toilet.

Call for Nominations Open Until May 15:
GBTA Board of Directors

Have you considered submitting a nomination for the 2023 GBTA Board of Directors elections? You now have more time to step forward. The deadline to submit nominations for the 2023 GBTA Board election has been extended to Monday, May 15, 2023, 5:00 PM ET.

We appreciate all who have already submitted nominations. Elections for open seats on GBTA's Board are held each year in conjunction with the annual Convention. The 2023 elections will conclude with the announcement of the new Board members on August 15, 2023, at the GBTA Annual Convention in Dallas.

We are seeking nominees for five open Board seats, including the President and Vice President roles, which must be filled by a buyer, two additional seats for buyer members that include the Canadian and At-Large seat. Also, open is one seat for a supplier member. Except for the Canadian regional seat, all eligible members from across the globe are welcome to fill the four seats.
