Cabin Waste Audit Reinforces IATA Sustainability Plans

A new standardized audit program to help reduce cabin waste will be launched by IATA and the Aviation Sustainability Forum (ASF) in September.

The pair have joined forces to launch the Cabin Waste Composition Audit (CWCA), which has already been trialed in two waves, covering 25 flights (short, medium, and long-haul) at Singapore’s Changi Airport in November 2023 and April 2024. ASF conducted the audits based on a methodology developed by IATA.

Preliminary results indicate that the sector is generating over 3.6 million metric tonnes of cabin and catering waste annually, with 65% being food and beverage waste. Untouched meals account for 18% of all waste.

This guideline provides an update to the Model Online Booking Tool (OBT) RFP with new, relevant questions. It makes provision for open ended and closed questions relevant to an OBT supplier review. This guideline is designed to allow you, the travel buyer, to further customize and refine questions to meet the specific RFx format and your organizational needs. The guideline can also be used by suppliers to prepare responses to anticipated RFx questions.
