WTTC: China and Asia-Pacific Lead Global Business Travel Recovery Surge

A new report from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has highlighted a significant rebound in business travel, with the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, playing a crucial role in driving the recovery. Business travel spending is set to surpass pre-pandemic levels faster than anticipated, reaching a record US$1.5 trillion globally.

During the pandemic, remote working and virtual meetings heavily impacted corporate travel, with many businesses turning to digital platforms instead of face-to-face interactions. While leisure travel almost returned to its 2019 peak, business travel lagged, remaining 5.4% below pre-pandemic levels last year. However, as the value of in-person meetings becomes more apparent, business travel is now on the rise again, with spending expected to exceed 2019 levels by 6.2%.
