Why Business Travelers Can Now Expect Fast, Automatic Refunds for Major Flight Problems

Traveling for work can be time-consuming, stressful, and expensive—and that doesn’t even count the frustration of unexpected flight delays or cancellations. But the worst hassles of business air travel may now be mitigated by new Department of Transportation (DOT) rules requiring airlines to rapidly compensate passengers for serious disruptions they suffer.
New DOT rules establishing automatic refunds to travelers sidelined by prolonged flight delays or cancellations came into force this week. The measures were initially passed in April, and some were implemented in May following the Federal Aviation Administration’s funding re-authorization. But latest, final batch of regulations may take a bit of the sting out of travel plans getting upended by vexing changes in airline schedules.
GBTA advocated for travelers to be refunded through the method of payment to ease confusion for travel managers when tracking business travelers expenses.
