The 2024 edition of the U.S. Business Travel Industry Economic Study published by GBTA quantifies the economic contribution made by business travel in 2022* to the U.S. economy and profiles U.S. business travelers in terms of their composition, behavior, motivations, and spending patterns.
Key findings from the research include:
- Contributions to the U.S. economy:
- Business travel spending in 2022 generated $421.1 billion USD, resulting in $119 billion in tax revenue. It also supported 6 million jobs and represents 2% of U.S. GDP and 3.5% of total employment.
- The top 15 states for business travel spending accounted for over 65% of the U.S. total.
- A profile of U.S. business travelers:
- A total of 429.9 million business trips were taken within the U.S.
- Per business trip spend averaged $632
- Business travelers are traveling longer for each trip (4.1 vs. 3.3 days).
- Blended travel represented 33.8% of all travel and travelers averaged 4.4 days on these trips
