GBTA Applauds New Details To Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production in the U.S. 

Alexandria, VA (September 26, 2022) – GBTA, the voice of the global business travel industry, applauds the recent announcement on next steps in the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Grand Challenge.  

GBTA strongly supports efforts to scale up new technologies to produce SAF on a commercial scale and put the aviation sector on a pathway to full decarbonization by 2050.  

“SAF will play a critical role in decarbonizing aviation by 2050 – but a dramatic acceleration of production capabilities and overall supply is vital,” said Suzanne Neufang GBTA CEO.

“The announcement of the SAF Grand Challenge roadmap puts the global business travel industry on strong footing to overcome barriers for widespread deployment of low-carbon sustainable aviation fuel that can decrease greenhouse gas emissions and shrink the traveler footprint. Thanks to the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Transportation, and its Federal Aviation Administration, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for leading the effort through research, development, and demonstration to meet SAF roadmap goals.” 

“GBTA will continue to play an active role in supporting SAF, by making sure corporate users of air travel can lean on SAF as the most effective solution to reduce their scope 3 emissions from business travel,” Neufang said.
